Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-07-08
VibeHive ("we", "us") is a social taste-ranking app run as an independent project. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it. It's written for humans; if anything is unclear, email us at privacy@vibehive.social.
What we collect
- Waitlist email — if you sign up before we open registration.
- Account details — your email, chosen username, display name, avatar, bio, and optional social links.
- Your rankings — the media titles you choose for your Top 5 in each category, and the order you place them in.
- Social graph — who you follow and who you block.
- Technical signals — your IP address (used to rate-limit abuse), timestamps of key actions, and error diagnostics.
- Browser storage — a small
vibehive-accentvalue inlocalStoragethat remembers your preferred accent colour, plus the session cookie your browser uses to keep you signed in.
We don't use tracking pixels, ad networks, or third-party analytics that build a profile of you across the web.
Why we use it
- To run your account and show your profile to other people.
- To compute "Vibe" overlap scores between you and other members.
- To prevent spam, abuse, and impersonation.
- To send transactional email you asked for (sign-in confirmation, password reset, account notifications). We do not send marketing email today; if we ever do, you'll be able to opt out.
What is public
Your profile page (username, display name, avatar, bio, rankings, follower/following counts) is public by design — anyone with the link can view it, and search engines may index it. If you don't want that, don't post it. You can delete your account at any time from Profile settings; deletion is irreversible and removes your rankings, follows, blocks, and waitlist entry.
Who processes your data
- Lovable Cloud (built on Supabase) — hosts our database, authentication, and server code.
- Cloudflare — serves the app and handles DDoS/abuse protection.
- Google — if you choose "Sign in with Google", Google verifies your identity and shares your email and profile picture with us.
- Public metadata APIs — OMDb, IGDB, Google Books, MusicBrainz, and Wikipedia. We call them to look up posters, covers, and release info for media titles. We do not send them anything about you.
Some processors are located outside your country. By using VibeHive you consent to your data being processed in those locations.
How long we keep it
- Waitlist emails — until we open registration to you, and for 12 months after launch, then purged.
- Account data — until you delete your account.
- Rate-limit and abuse logs — up to 24 hours.
- Backups — retained by Lovable Cloud on a rolling window (typically 7 days).
Your rights
You can access, correct, export, or delete your data. Most of it is directly editable in your profile settings; for anything else, email privacy@vibehive.social and we'll respond within 30 days. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data-protection authority.
Children
VibeHive is not intended for children under 13 (or under 16 in the EEA and UK). If you learn that a child has created an account, email us and we'll remove it.
Changes
When we update this policy we'll change the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be announced in-app or by email to your account address.
